The London Lakers are pleased to announce the signing of defensemen Luke McCutcheon and Josh Zlatinszky.
The defensemen, McCutcheon of Brussels, Ontario, and Zlatinszky a London, Ontario native, were signed at the Lakers’ main camp in Mid-August.
“We feel with the signing of Luke and Josh, that we’ll have one of the best young defensive groups in the GMHL,” said Director of Player Personnel and Scouting Ian Kennedy.
McCutcheon, a 1997 born player who stands six-foot-five, spent last season with the Junior C Goderich Flyers.
“We spotted Luke at an OJHL camp earlier this year, and he’s been a target of ours ever since,” added Kennedy.
Zlatinszky, a six-foot-two, 1998 defender, spent last season with the Huron-Perth Cullitons Major Midget ‘AAA’ team scoring a goal and 8 assists in 33 games. The year prior, he skated for the London Jr. Knights Minor Midget ‘AAA’ program.
“Josh has a huge upside, “ says Kennedy. “He’s a local product, a character person, and we’re excited to help him develop this season, and advance him to the next level. We think Josh is going to take a big step this season and prove he is a top prospect.”
“These two big defensemen add skill and size to our backend,” says Head Coach and General Manager Jeff Zehr. “Another step toward building a winning program.”
The London Lakers open their 2015-2016 GMHL season September 15 on the road against the Brantford Steelfighters, before hosting the Halton Ravens September 18 for their home opener.
Puck drop for London’s home opener is at 7:30pm at London Sports Park, located at 99 Brookside Street in London. Tickets are $8 for adults, and $5 for students and seniors. Seasons passes will also be on sale for $150 for London’s 21 home dates this season.
