“We’ve made a lot of changes,” says Director of Player Personnel and Scouting Ian Kennedy. “Some were difficult goodbyes, and some have been veteran additions. We’re headed in the right direction.”
That direction included 3 wins in 3 nights this past weekend, including a 10-3 win over the North York Renegades, a 5-4 win over the Toronto Attack, and a convincing 5-0 victory over the Niagara Whalers.
The Lakers added 1994 born veteran forward Jordan Babb who played last season with the GOJHL’s St. Thomas Stars, and also signed veteran netminder Daniel Potter, who finished last season backstopping the OJHL’s Wellington Dukes. The week prior, the Lakers signed GMHL veteran Gavin McAughey, who captained the Rama Aces last season.
“These players made an instant impact in our dressing room and roster,” says Kennedy.
“They have a professional approach to the game, and it’s been infectious in the room and on the ice. The rest of our roster really came together this weekend, and put together three gutsy performances.”
In his first three games in a Lakers uniform, Jordan Babb collected 4 goals and 3 assists for 7 points over the weekend.
Potter had a stunning 53 save performance Sunday against the Niagara Whalers, collecting the first shutout in Lakers history, and also took the win Friday between the pipes.
The London Lakers now open a 6 week home stand, beginning with this Friday’s game against the Brantford Steelfighters.
The Lakers will look to build on their 6-4-0 record and 4th place standing in the GMHL’s South Division. The team is currently paced in the scoring department by Western student and Texas product Chris Rodo who has 8 goals and 7 assists for 15 points in 9 games, followed by fellow Western student Kevin Hu, who has 7 goals and 7 assists for 14 points in 10 games.
Puck drop October 16 is at 7:30pm. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.
